We can not imagine what a difficult time this must be for you. The fact that you have placed the needs of your child above your own shows what a truly special person you are. We are very thankful that you are considering adoption as it is an answer to many prayers. May God bless you during this time and give you peace about your decision.
We are Kurt and Lisa.
We met over 20 years ago as freshman at Point Loma Nazarene College. We became friends and nurtured that friendship for six years. During that time we not only became the best of friends, but we also fell very much in love. Three years later we committed our lives to one another and have now been married fifteen years. We waited to start a family until later in our marriage because we wanted to be "ready". Lisa's mom would always say "you will never be ready, just do it". We tried unsuccessfully for over three years to become pregnant, but as each month, then year went by, we began to realize that what we always thought would just happen, when we were ready, may never happen. We both have a very strong belief that everything happens for a reason, and that is why we chose not to pursue fertility treatments.
Lisa's brother and his wife adopted a few years ago, so we were fortunate enough to witness the joy of adoption within our immediate family and see what a blessing it can be. This made it clear to us that adoption was exactly what God has intended for us as well, and we were blessed in 2006 with the adoption of our son Kade. It was the most joyous day of our lives. We are truly ready to add to our family, and anxious to welcome a second child into our hearts and home. We truly believe that God has created the perfect child for us and our family and will bless us with them when the time is right.
Our faith is important to us and we will raise our child with a strong belief in Jesus Christ and involvement in the church. We have very similar backgrounds and upbringings. Both of us were raised in Christian homes with two loving parents and one younger sibling. Both our parents have been married over forty years, so having a strong, committed marriage is a top priority.
We live in Lakeside on four and one-half acres in a ranch style house with a large fenced back yard. There is plenty of space for our children to run and play. We are surrounded by all kinds of animals. We have four dogs, two Jack Russell terriers (Tucker and Charlene) and two Queensland Healers (Skeeter and Tug), and they all love children. Our five horses (Fannie, Liza Jayne, Prudence, McCoy, and Twyla) range in age from three to eighteen years. We breed, and raise Paint horses and just beyond the backyard is Lisa's horse training facility. Her horse hobby has turned into a full time job, as she trains horses and their owners for the show arena. Lisa has been training for 9 years and her customers have risen to be competitive on the national level. Working for herself, and right over the backyard fence, allows her to adjust her schedule according to the needs of the family, and her customers are excited for us and have offered to help in any way they can. We are so thankful for this situation, as it allows Lisa to be at home with the baby.
Kurt works at a local computer company where he has been for almost sixteen years. He loves it primarily because of the people he works with, and they love him. He has moved up from an entry level position to his current position of Chief Financial Officer. Kurt's boss, who has become a good friend over the years, was adopted and is incredibly supportive of our decision, and the company is very family oriented and understanding of family time. We are very blessed with his work situation.
We are incredibly close to both our families. Lisa's parents live just twenty minutes away and come over every day to watch Kade while Lisa works, and we are very lucky to have the this option. There is always a family dinner being planned for birthdays, holidays or some special occasion. We usually host them because we enjoy having everyone over, and Lisa loves to cook and bake. Her family is so excited to have another addition, and they can hardly wait. Kurt's parents live in Idaho, but also have a home close to us. They get down almost twice a month and we always make time to visit. They are both looking forward to becoming grandparents again.
We value education highly, and both of us have post graduate degrees. Kurt graduated from Point Loma Nazarene College with a B.A. in business and later received his MBA from USD. Lisa graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a B.S. in nutritional sciences and then received an M.S. in exercise physiology from Cal Poly Pomona. We would hope that through our love of education, and the value we place on it, our children will desire to pursue a higher level of education as well. Lisa is an avid reader and has kept many of her childhood books. She reads to Kade every day and he loves books just as much as she does.
We are also both very sports oriented. Kurt loves to golf, fish and water ski, and Lisa is into working out, soccer, and riding horses. We love to attend any kind of sporting event, and have season tickets to the Chargers with Lisa's dad and brother.
Our goal as parents is to provide a loving and nurturing home for our children to grow. We will raise them with a strong sense of right and wrong, and encourage them to set goals and dream dreams. We will also provide them with every opportunity to be successful and productive individuals as they grow. We can hardly wait to coach sports teams, read stories, go to horse shows, school field trips and have birthday parties, and will be involved in their lives at every level providing support and encouragement.
We are honored that you would consider us to parent your child, and will ensure that our child knows the selfless love their birthmother has shown in placing him/her with us. We hope our letter gives you an idea of what we are all about, and if you decide we are the right family for your child, we would love to meet you in person.
